The exhibitions
The Museo del Genio marks a new cultural chapter in Rome with the opening of two major exhibitions that promise to become must-see events for anyone visiting the Eternal City. For the first time since its foundation in the 1930s, the Historical Institute and Cultural Center of the Corps of Engineers has officially reopened its doors to the public. The result is a remarkable transformation: over 4,000 square meters have been restored and redesigned to create a modern cultural hub where history, contemporary art, and architecture coexist in perfect harmony.
This reopening introduces a fresh addition to the list of things to do in Rome, ideal for travelers seeking cultural experiences beyond the traditional tourist paths.
The new season launches with two outstanding exhibitions: Vivian Maier. The Exhibition dedicated to the legendary American photographer in celebration of the 100th anniversary of her birth, and Pop Air by Ugo Nespolo, presented as a national premiere with a series of monumental installations.
The exhibition itinerary opens with the vibrant world of Ugo Nespolo, one of the most eclectic figures in Italian contemporary art. His colorful and playful sculptures guide visitors through a site-specific journey where pop aesthetics meet elegant, dynamic forms. “Pop Air” marks the official debut of the museum’s renovated spaces, offering an immersive experience that blends art, color, and architecture—an exciting highlight for those exploring Rome exhibitions this season.
At the same time, “Vivian Maier. The Exhibition,” curated by Anne Morin, invites visitors into the intimate and captivating universe of the nanny-photographer who redefined street photography. More than two hundred photographs reveal daily life, faces, gestures, and emotions through Maier’s unique and sensitive perspective. The exhibition, conceived by Vertigo Syndrome and created in collaboration with diChroma Photography, is produced and organized by Arthemisia, the institution behind the entire curatorial project.
With this dual premiere, the Museo del Genio emerges as a dynamic new cultural destination in the heart of Rome—a place where memory meets innovation, perfect for art lovers, curious travelers, and locals looking for cultural events in Rome that offer something truly unique.
