Mark Kostabi’s exhibition
La Vaccheria in Rome, the eternal city of art and culture, welcomes Mark Kostabi – From Pop to Eternity, a unique exhibition celebrating the multifaceted talent of the American artist. Born in Los Angeles in 1960 to Estonian immigrant parents, Kostabi quickly rose to international fame as a painter, writer, composer, pianist, and producer, becoming one of the leading voices of the global Pop Art movement.
Curated by Gianfranco Rosini and organized by Municipio IX of Rome with the support of Roma Capitale and Zètema Progetto Cultura, the exhibition takes place in one of the city’s most dynamic cultural spaces: La Vaccheria in the EUR district. Opened in 2002 and officially renamed in 2024 as the “House of Pop Art,” La Vaccheria has become a key venue for modern and contemporary art in Rome.
Over 100 Works on display
The retrospective showcases more than 100 works, drawn both from Kostabi’s private collection and the Rosini Gutman Collection. Visitors will discover sculptures, oil paintings, and drawings that retrace the artist’s entire creative journey:
- his early works of the 1980s, including Ascent to Street Level and St Peter’s Mistake;
- iconic masterpieces from the 1990s such as The Rhythm of Inspiration and The Studio System;
- recent creations like Gaming the Course of History and Facing the Truth, the latter made in collaboration with his brother Paul.
A journey into Pop Art and beyond
Mark Kostabi – From Pop to Eternity is not just an exhibition; it is an immersive journey into the evolution of Pop Art and contemporary creativity. Beyond admiring Kostabi’s iconic style, visitors are invited to explore his reflections on the commodification of art, the role of creativity as a voice for social and human issues, and the place of the artist in a postmodern society facing the challenges of the digital age.
