The exhibition
Just steps from Piazza Navona, Palazzo Braschi presents a remarkable photography exhibition dedicated to George Hoyningen-Huene, a visionary of fashion photography and one of the 20th century’s most influential photographers. Celebrating 125 years since his birth, the exhibition features over 100 iconic images that reflect his timeless, refined style and artistic innovation.
Curated by Susanna Brown, this is the first time the exhibition is presented in Rome. It offers an immersive journey through the elegant and sophisticated world of Hoyningen-Huene, showcasing platinum prints, classical art influences, and avant-garde aesthetics. As the chief photographer for French Vogue between 1926 and 1936, Hoyningen-Huene redefined the visual language of fashion photography.
Visitors can explore ten thematic sections that highlight different aspects of his work: Visions of an Era, Between Jazz and Ballets Russes, The Allure of the Ideal Body, Echoes of Antiquity, Surrealist Influences, Timeless Models, Harper’s Bazaar and High Fashion, and The Magic of Hollywood Cinema.
The exhibition also features iconic portraits of legendary figures from the worlds of art, cinema, and fashion, including Greta Garbo, Charlie Chaplin, Pablo Picasso, Salvador Dalí, Ingrid Bergman, Josephine Baker, Jean Cocteau, Lee Miller, and Horst P. Horst.
It also highlights Hoyningen-Huene’s collaborations with major haute couture houses such as Chanel, Balenciaga, Schiaparelli, and Cartier.
Promoted by Roma Capitale and organized by CMS.Cultura, with the support of the Italian Ministry of Culture and the Institut Français Italia, this is a must-see event in Rome for anyone passionate about fashion photography, art history, and cultural experiences in the Eternal City.
