The event
The Ara reveal itself is an event not to be missed. This innovative multimedia project, hosted at the Museo dell’Ara Pacis, offers visitors the opportunity to discover the Ara Pacis Augustae through an immersive journey that combines technology, storytelling, music and striking visual effects.
The Ara Pacis is one of the most important monuments of Ancient Rome. It was commissioned by the Roman Senate to celebrate the return of Emperor Augustus from his military campaigns in Spain and Gaul. Thanks to an advanced videomapping system featuring eight 4K laser projectors, the marble reliefs come to life with light, color and extraordinary detail, allowing guests to appreciate how the monument may have originally appeared.
During the visit, an audio guide available in both Italian and English leads visitors through a fascinating narrative enhanced by voices, music, and sound effects. The color reconstructions are based on scientific studies and historical research, providing a modern and accurate interpretation of this masterpiece of Roman art.
The experience unfolds across four stages, guiding guests through the history of the Ara Pacis, from its origins in the ancient Campus Martius to its rediscovery centuries later. On the main façade, visitors encounter the legendary origins of Rome with Aeneas, Romulus and Remus, while along the sides of the enclosure the famous marble procession features priests, magistrates and members of the imperial family.
Inside the monument, symbolic figures such as Tellus, goddess of fertility, and the goddess Roma can be admired. Particularly remarkable is the decorative vegetal frieze, featuring acanthus leaves, flowers and more than fifty botanical species identified by scholars, alongside small animals hidden among the carvings.
The final part of the exhibition tells the story of the monument’s archaeological recovery, from centuries of neglect to the excavations of the 19th and 20th centuries that brought one of Rome’s greatest treasures back to light.
Don’t miss the immersive experience to discover the history of the Ara Pacis through video mapping, history and technology and stay at the 47 Boutique Hotel in the heart of Rome.
