The exhibition
Da From Vienna to Rome. The Habsburg Masterpieces will be hosted at Palazzo Cipolla from 6 March to 5 July 2026, offering one of the most important art exhibitions in Rome in 2026. This remarkable showcase celebrates the cultural dialogue between Vienna and the Italian capital.
The exhibition is the result of a prestigious collaboration with the Kunsthistorisches Museum, one of Europe’s leading museums. Curated by art historian Cäcilia Bischoff, it presents — for the first time in Italy — over fifty exceptional masterpieces from the Viennese collection, guiding visitors through four centuries of European art history, from the Renaissance to the Baroque.
The exhibition brings together works of outstanding historical and artistic significance, commissioned and acquired between the 16th and 19th centuries by members of the Habsburg imperial family.
Highlights include masterpieces by Peter Paul Rubens, Diego Velázquez, Jan Brueghel the Elder, Anthony Van Dyck and Lucas Cranach the Elder.
Alongside these great European masters, visitors will also discover iconic Italian artists such as Tiziano, Tintoretto, Paolo Veronese, Giuseppe Arcimboldo e Orazio Gentileschi.
The exhibition also explores the historical and cultural identity of the Kunsthistorisches Museum, designed by architects Gottfried Semper and Carl Hasenauer, whose architecture is highlighted in a dedicated section.
A fascinating architectural dialogue is presented between Semper and Antonio Cipolla, architect of Palazzo Cipolla, offering a comparison of 19th-century European architectural visions.
The exhibition is further enriched by a refined selection from the Kunstkammer, one of Europe’s most captivating “cabinets of curiosities,” where rare objects, artistic craftsmanship and natural wonders come together in a celebration of human ingenuity.
