The exhibition
Albert Watson, a famous photographer born in Edinburgh in 1942 and resident in New York since the 1970s, is one of the most influential names in the world of contemporary photography. Famous for his images that combine art, fashion and commercial photography, Watson has created unforgettable portraits of people such as Alfred Hitchcock, Steve Jobs and Kate Moss.
The large photographic exhibition, conceived by Studio F.P. and promoted by the Department of Culture of Roma Capitale together with Azienda Speciale Palaexpo, presents Watson’s unique view of the city of Rome. The artist explored the Capital far beyond the common visual clichés, walking its streets for over two years without a map, letting himself be guided by the urban rhythm and capturing its authentic essence through faces, architecture and moments of everyday life.
This exhibition of contemporary photography, hosted in the halls of Palazzo delle Esposizioni in Rome, includes 200 shots in both black and white and color, many of which in large format. The images are arranged according to an intuitive rather than thematic order, alternating intimate and spontaneous scenes with monumental views such as the Colosseum, but also lesser-known settings such as the Cinecittà studios. The exhibition portrays both anonymous citizens and well-known faces of the Italian cultural scene, including Paolo Sorrentino, Valeria Golino, Luca Zingaretti, Roberto Bolle and Cardinal Silvano Maria Tomasi.
Roma Codex is a visual journey through contemporary Rome, suspended between its thousand-year history and the innovative energy of the present. This photographic collection offers an in-depth perspective on the Capital, revealing its contrasts, its vitality and its continuous transformation.
