The exhibition
Palazzo delle Esposizioni hosts ROMASUONA. Music in Italy 1970–1979, a major exhibition dedicated to the music, culture and creative energy of the 1970s in Rome. Open until July 12, 2026, the exhibition offers an immersive journey through one of the most revolutionary and influential decades in Italian cultural history.
Promoted by the Department of Culture of Rome Capital and Azienda Speciale Palaexpo, the exhibition is curated by Guido Bellachioma with a set design created by the THREES collective, founders of the internationally renowned Terraforma music festival.
The exhibition explores the vibrant and experimental atmosphere of 1970s Rome, when the city became an international meeting point for artists, musicians, intellectuals and countercultural movements. During this period, music expanded beyond traditional boundaries, connecting with cinema, theatre, literature, visual arts and political activism, becoming a powerful symbol of social change and collective identity. Alongside Milan, Bologna and Naples, Rome emerged as one of the leading capitals of Italy’s artistic and musical revolution.
Visitors can discover more than 700 photographs, many of them previously unpublished, featuring some of the most iconic Italian and international artists of the decade, including Francesco De Gregori, Antonello Venditti, Rino Gaetano, Renato Zero, Lucio Battisti, Franco Battiato and Mia Martini.
International legends such as David Bowie, Patti Smith, Miles Davis, Genesis, Pink Floyd and The Rolling Stones are also featured throughout the exhibition. Alongside Milan, Bologna and Naples, Rome emerged as one of the leading capitals of Italy’s artistic and musical revolution.
