The exhibition
Exhibition Raoul Dufy. The Painter of Joy will be at Palazzo Cipolla until the 26th of February 2023. It is the first major Italian exhibition dedicated to the works of one of the masters of modern art.
Over 160 works including paintings, drawings, ceramics and fabrics on loan from important French public and private collections, such as the Musée d’Art Moderne de Paris and the Center Pompidou. At the center is the life and works of the French painter, always able to turn his gaze towards modernity.
The exhibition is divided into 13 sections, retracing Dufy‘s artistic career through his works and the different techniques acquired from the early 1900s to the 1950s.
Chromatic violence is fundamental in his works, where color takes center stage compared to form and becomes indispensable to communicate emotions and moods. The artistic evolution leads the painter to initially approach Monet‘s impressionism, then move on to Matisse and finally to Cézanne‘s austerity.
Seascapes and racecourses, as well as representations of social life, are the scenarios he most painted, always with liveliness and vivacity. Incentives and experimentation are fundamental for Dufy, whose main purpose is to make art engaged, but at the same time light.
