Sebastiao Salgado. “Amazonia”. The exhibition dedicated to the Amazon Rainforest by the Brazilian photographer at the Maxxi of Rome, until the 21st of August 2022. Over 200 shots to celebrate the Amazonia and its people.
The exhibition
One of the most important exhibition by the Brazilian photographer Sebastião Salgado “Amazônia” will be at the Maxxi of Rome until the 21st of August 2022. Over 200 photographs that tell the Amazon Rainforest and its people. A human, natural and cultural heritage that must be protected and safeguarded at every cost.
This work is the result of seven years spent in the Amazon through real photographic expeditions by land, water and air. The exhibition is the only stage in Italy of Salgado’s Amazônia project, that will travel around the world, including London, Sao Paulo, Avignon and Rio de Janeiro.
This expositive path is divided into two parts. The first one is dedicated to the devastating beauty of the Amazon Rainforest seen from above. Trees, rivers, mountains and islands that paint a breathtaking landscape. In the second part instead, the indigenous peoples who live there are immortalized. A great variety of tribes who live in this territory and whose survival is constantly threatened by the so-called civilized people.
In this way, Salgado uses photography to raise awareness and make us reflect on the ecological problems of our planet, today more relevant than ever.
