PPP100 – ROME AND PIER PAOLO PASOLINI

On the centenary of his birth, Rome pays tribute to Pier Paolo Pasolini, born in Bologna, but Roman by adoption. A whole year full of events and initiatives, including screenings, meetings and shows.

The event

Rome dedicates a whole year to Pier Paolo Pasolini, to celebrate the centenary of his birth, which took place on the 5th of March 1922. Screenings, exhibitions, shows and dozens of initiatives made possible by the collaboration with local cultural institutions. Poet, writer, director and painter, Pasolini was also an intellectual who sparked the Italian public debate in the second half of the 20th century, addressing issues that are still completely current.

Among the scheduled exhibitions, there is Hostia | Pier Paolo Pasolini at the Baths of Diocletian from the 13th of April to the 12th of June. The exposition, curated by Lorenzo Canova who takes inspiration from Pasolini’s death, unfolds around the main work that represents the artist’s body rethinking his life, and then continuing with sculptures, paintings and videos.

Space also for Pasolini painter with the homonymous exhibition from the 14th of October 2022 to the 16th of April 2023 at the Gallery of Modern Art in Rome. The talents of the artist in the artistic context of the 20th century will be investigated; an almost hidden side, but always connected to the issues dear to Pasolini.

As for the cinema, we have to mention the tribute of Cinema Troisi entitled Pasolini Spectator. Every Saturday until May 28, it will be dedicated to a movie loved by the director and fundamental for his career. Meetings and analysis will integrate each screening.
