Among Andy Warhol’s most famous works on display, there are more than 70 serigraphs, 24 of them belonging to After Andy Warhol. Some examples are the serial Marilyn Monroe, Campbell’s Soup, Mao Flowers, Fish and Gems. In addition, there are two series that represent Warhol’s passions: one pays homage to Hans Christian Andersen’s fairy tales and the one to the book Cats.
The exhibition continues with 24 white Rosenthal porcelains painted in gold and A Gold Book (1957), a book characterized by golden pages featuring 20 offset lithographs and Christmas-themed drawings.
The exhibitions is dividid in different sections, linked to Andy Warhol’s passions. The first one is devoted to music, which highlights the strong link not only with the recording industry, but also with the artists themselves: 60 original vinyls with covers by Andy Warhol, such as Sticky Fingers by the Rolling Stones and the first album by Velvet Underground & Nico, with peeling banana.
Do not miss the section dedicated to his passion for photography and publishing, as evidenced by the founding of Interview. Warhol used to create covers and interviews with the celebrities of the moment for the magazine. The exhibition includes around twenty covers depicting famous people such as Jack Nicholson, Salvador Dalì and Annie Lennox.
Finally, the black-and-white silent movie Empire from 1965, the poster and 11 original promotional shots of the 1970 docu-film Trash – The Waste of New York (produced by Warhol), document the profound relationship between the artist and cinema.
